Welcome to the final TardisTalk for the year.

It’s no secret that our world is daily becoming more complex. It’s more instrumented, more intelligent and more interconnected ... and it’s making more demands on your infrastructure. To deal with that, businesses require a smarter infrastructure – one that’s designed for this new, smarter planet.

A Dynamic Infrastructure takes a more optimised, streamlined approach – integrating visibility, control and automation across your business and IT assets, addressing the challenges of the information explosion using flexible delivery choices like clouds while managing and mitigating risks.

Since Dynamic Infrastructure is the latest buzz phrase in IT, this quarter we’re exploring what it is, how it can help your business and what you need to get started. Read on for the answers to your Dynamic Infrastructure questions ... and of course, should you need a more personalised approach to address your business’ specific requirements, we’re just a phone call or email away.

And as always, if you think a colleague or friend could benefit from some of TardisTalk’s knowledge bank, click here to refer a friend.

Thank you ... and enjoy!

Do you know what your downtime really costs you?

Your data is your most valuable business asset. Without it, your business can’t function. And every minute your business can’t function costs you dearly, which is why disaster recovery planning – and testing – are so crucial. In TardisTalk’s Virtualisation edition we brought you information on VMware’s pioneering Site Recovery Manager for virtual environments. And now there’s a new version on the market with a whole host of additional benefits.

Featuring automated disaster recovery, VMware Site Recovery Manager 4 also provides expanded storage support to allow users to leverage iSCSI, Fiber Channel and Network File System (NFS) based storage replication. It’s compatible with vSphere™ 4, which gives users better application performance and protection. And VMware Site Recovery Manager 4 can now protect multiple sites with simplified, automated failover into a single, shared recovery site. VMware Site Recovery Manager 4 reduces the complexity of protecting your virtual environments ... at the same time as it increases your confidence that your most precious assets are safe.

Let us review and analyse your SAN Infrastructure

The Tardis Services Storage Analysis is designed to perform a detailed analysis of the Storage Infrastructure and provide recommendations on your current deployment, including considerations based on overall design, performance and capacity.

Our analysis will:

  • Discover storage devices such as RAIDs, tape libraries, tape drives, FC switches, HBAs, and host servers
  • Report on your devices’ current status and health
  • Capture sensor faults in power supply, temperature, fan, and battery
  • Summarise inventory information such as:
    1. Firmware versions
    2. Capacity and utilisation
    3. Storage breakdown and mapping
    4. Detailed performance statistics
    5. At a glance reports on availability and performance trends
    6. Reports identifying over- or under-utilised elements
  • Provide comprehensive recommendations on your environment‘s health

Once your review is complete, we analyse all of the information collected and supply you with a detailed report that provides you with:

  • Inventory
  • Performance
  • Alarms and Alerts
  • Recommendations

A business needs to know where it is before it can make practical plans for the future – our analysis will provide you with all the knowledge you need to make the best possible business decisions.

In the June edition of TardisTalk we took a look at one module of the IBM TSM FastBack suite. This time, we’re profiling the Rapid Recovery module for Microsoft Exchange users.

There’s no doubt that, for its users, Microsoft Exchange is a business-critical application, meaning that any downtime at all can have significant ramifications. Until now, restoring Exchange data such as individual email messages has been extremely time-consuming and costly.

This new generation solution gives administrators – and users – the ability to recover any Microsoft Exchange data object more quickly and easily than ever before – often in just minutes.

Not only is IBM’s TSM FastBack Microsoft Exchange Rapid Recovery state of the art, it’s a low cost solution that avoids deploying complex and expensive disk snapshot technologies. This new module:

  • provides ultra-fast MS Exchange recovery
  • complements your existing backup strategy and works seamlessly across your existing heterogeneous disk storage infrastructure
  • performs near-instant item-level recovery of mailboxes, folders, calendar entries, contacts, journal entries and tasks without having to restore the entire Exchange Storage Group

We’d welcome the opportunity to discuss the benefits Microsoft Exchange Rapid Recovery could confer on your backup procedures. If you’d like to talk them over, please call us on (02) 8870 9000.
